Studying Maternal and Neonatal Safety in Cesarean Deliveries

SPIRESPIRE-Obs-Anesthesia-Pediatrics 2023

Project Overview

Anesthesia plays a crucial role in the safety of mothers and infants during childbirth — particularly in emergency cesarean sections. Yet, in Pakistan, there is limited research data documenting how anesthesia affects outcomes in such cases.

The SPIRE-Obs-Anesthesia-Pediatrics 2023 project bridges this critical gap by developing a database that records maternal and neonatal responses to anesthesia under various conditions. Data from five hospitals in Punjab and one in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are being compiled, offering the first structured insight into anesthesia outcomes within local healthcare settings.

This evidence will guide healthcare policy, clinical practice improvements, and academic publications to enhance maternal and infant care standards nationwide.
